🚀 Quick Setup & How It Works

1. Install from Chrome Web Store: Once added to Chrome, Brave, Edge, or Opera, the shield icon appears in your browser toolbar.

2. Open Any Video: Start playback on YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Hulu, Max, Paramount+, or Peacock.

3. Automatic Audio & Caption Muting:

  • When profanity, crude words, or blasphemy appear, the video audio is immediately muted for ~2.2 seconds.
  • Matching closed-caption text is scrubbed and masked on screen to [•••].
  • Hash-Memory: Once a video is played, the exact timecodes are stored locally. Replays mute automatically even if subtitles are turned off!
Compliance Notice:
100% compliant with the U.S. Family Movie Act (17 U.S.C. § 110(11)). All processing happens locally on your machine with zero video decryption or streaming alteration.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Does LightPath PureAudio work with YouTube videos?
Yes. YouTube is fully supported. The extension automatically monitors YouTube's closed captions (both creator-uploaded and YouTube auto-generated captions). When a flagged word is reached, the HTML5 video audio mutes instantly and the subtitle text is masked.
▶ Why didn't a bad word mute on a specific video?
The extension inspects closed captions to detect bad words in real time. If a YouTube video has captions turned off and auto-captions have not yet been generated by YouTube (such as on newly uploaded live streams), the extension cannot read the transcript until captions are active. Once captions are present, the video is learned and saved into local Hash-Memory for all future replays.
▶ Can I mute words without having subtitles visible on screen?
Yes! This is LightPath's signature Hash-Memory feature. After a video or movie is watched once with captions on, LightPath remembers the exact timestamps. On subsequent viewings, you can turn subtitles completely off and the audio will still mute precisely at those seconds.
▶ What words are filtered? Can I add my own?
LightPath comes with three built-in shield categories:
  • Reverence Shield: Blasphemy, taking the Lord's name in vain (OMG, GD, Jesus Christ as expletives).
  • Profanity Shield: Standard vulgarities and swearing.
  • Preschool Mode: Bratty/rude phrasing (shut up, stupid, idiot, jerk, etc.).
You can also add any custom words or phrases separated by commas directly in the extension popup.
▶ Does the extension collect or sell my browsing history?
Never. LightPath operates 100% locally on your computer. Zero video data, zero audio data, and zero browsing history are ever transmitted to any external server. Read our full Privacy Policy for full statutory disclosures.
